Just A Simple Little Daisy

But it is the Secret of Life

This is based off of the Third Doctor's speech in the Time Monsters. Basically, the speech goes like this:

Jo (current companion): It makes (life) seem so pointless doesn't it?

Doctor: I felt like that once. It was the blackest day of my life. But it was also my best. ....
Behind our house lived a monk, who had learnt the secret of life. So when my black day came, I went to him for help. Ah, I'll never forget what that was like. So bleak and cold it was. A few bare rocks with some weeds springing from them, and some pathetic patches of sludgy snow. The Earth was just gray. Gray, gray, gray. .... The old man said nothing, he just sat there silently, expressionless while I poured out all my troubles to him. And when I had finished, he took his skeletal hand and pointed at a flower. One of those weeds it was, much like a daisy. I looked at it for a moment, and suddenly saw it through his eyes. It was simply glowing with life, like a perfectly cut jewel. The colours, the colours were deeper and richer than anything you could possibly imagine.
So later I got up, and realized the rocks weren't gray at all, they were red, brown, purple and gold. And those pathetic little patches of sludgy snow were shining white in the sun.

I absolutely love this monologue because it was pretty much describing the beginning of the Doctor as we know him, one who could see the beauty in everything. But the descriptions kind of put the setting on a more, earth-like planet, so I used the red grass and burnt orange sky of Gallifrey, and because the trees had silver leaves, I decided to make the stem and leaves of the “daisy” silver as well, mainly to better contrast with the grass.

 I digitally re did this piece from this acrylic piece logicinwonderland.deviantart.c… , and I must say this is so much better. During this piece, I tried focusing on using textures, as well as maintaining focus on the daisy. I actually like how this piece came out, especially when compared to my old piece.
